PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Smith Inherits His Former Role

Share

Doug Smith, who has been left unprotected, released, re-signed and demoted in the past few months, is back as the Rams’ starting center, at least until further notice.

“It feels good to be back where I feel I belong,” said Smith, who lost his job to last year’s left guard, Tom Newberry, but has regained it because Newberry had to move back to left guard to replace injured Bern Brostek. “I plan on just forgetting what’s happened and plowing on. It’s basically like riding a bike; I’ve been doing it awhile.”

Gerald Perry, who served more than two months in a Colorado jail after assaulting a woman, has been sued by the victim. The lawsuit was filed by Carmen Santiago-Mobley, who then was the fiancee of former Denver tight end Orson Mobley. . . . The Rams released rookie linebacker Terry Crews to make room on the 47-man roster for rookie offensive lineman Jeff Pahukoa . . . Sunday, the Rams plan to deactivate Brostek and wide receiver Flipper Anderson.
