A frantic auto chase in Lake View Terrace came to a spectacular end Tuesday when a car bounced off a truck and flipped at least a dozen times. The driver and a passenger suffered only minor bumps and scrapes, Los Angeles police said.

The driver, David Hardy, 21, of Sylmar and his passenger, Lynett Quigley, 20, of Lake View Terrace, were both treated at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills for minor injuries. Quigley was released and Hardy was being held at Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of armed robbery. His bail was set at $10,000. Quigley was not arrested.

The incident began about 10:45 a.m. when an officer spotted a 1988 Chevy Blazer that had been reported stolen. The car was traveling north on Foothill Boulevard near Osborne Street, Sgt. Gene Fretheim said. The car was believed to have been used in a recent armed robbery, police said.

The officer pulled the car over and waited for backup units, but the driver sped off at about 80 m.p.h., Fretheim said.

After running a red light at Foothill Boulevard and Paxton Street, the Blazer hit a truck and somersaulted before coming to a stop about 500 feet away, police said.

“There wasn’t a single part of the vehicle that was undamaged,” Fretheim said. “It was a mess.”
