Share

A landscape design of drought-tolerant trees and plants at the interchange of the Foothill and San Gabriel River Freeways has won an in-house, water conservation award given by the state Department of Transportation.

The design by local Caltrans planners utilizes a drip irrigation system throughout 18.5 acres of plantings at the interchange, passed by 125,000 vehicles daily.

The landscaping incorporates red gum, desert gum, California pepper trees, red and white oleanders and laurel sumac.
