HUNTINGTON BEACH — Two brothers were arrested Wednesday after they allegedly robbed a florist, then led officers on a chase that ended when an officer fired at them, police said.
Just before noon two men entered the Red Lily floral shop at 16105 Bolsa Chica Ave., talked to a florist for a few minutes and then left, Police Lt. Ed McErlain said.
The men returned demanding money, one brandished a gun, McErlain said. They fled with about $150.
They led officers on a chase into Seal Beach, where their car spun out of control at 16281 Pacific Coast Highway. One of the men ran to the back of a restaurant, McErlain said.
” . . . As the officer came around a corner, the suspect came at the officer,” McErlain said. “The individual reached for his waistband and at the same time dove. . . . The officer fired one shot” and missed.
Police arrested Darin Nye, 26. His 27-year-old brother, Keith, was found hiding in apile of wood. Both are from Long Beach.
