Countywide : Fog Breaks Hot Spell in Western County

Share

Coastal fog broke the hot spell in western Ventura County on Thursday, but inland temperatures continued to make October seem like summer.

The county’s high Thursday was 91 degrees in Ojai, with highs of 85 in Oxnard and 66 in Ventura, said Stephanie Hunter of WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasting services for The Times.

Today’s forecast calls for highs in the 70s near the beaches and a high of 91 inland near Ojai. Some fog and low clouds may shade the sun in coastal areas in the early morning but they are expected to clear by the afternoon, Hunter said. Lows tonight are expected to be in the mid-50s to low 60s.

Hunter said a thick marine layer of fog caused temperatures to drop Thursday, as clouds blocked the sun and there was a cool ocean breeze.

The slightly cooler temperatures did not attract much notice in eastern Ventura County. “It was hot (Wednesday). Today it was hot,” said county firefighter Robert Blackwell in Simi Valley, which recorded 105 on Wednesday.

The relief from heat may not last long, Hunter said. Saturday’s forecast calls for the mercury to climb a few degrees once again.
