Editors note: On Oct. 22 South Gate voters will go to the polls to decide whether the city should allow the establishment of a card casino as part of a $60-million complex that also would include a hotel, restaurants and a health spa. The following letters discuss the ballot issue, Measure A.

Shame, shame, shame on those has-been and wanna-be politicians who lost not only once but twice, a couple of them three times. They knock the City Council continuously. It isn’t that they don’t want the Card Club, it’s that they don’t want anything this present City Council would want. Good grief, get over it. The election was over two years ago.

In most cities, after an election is over, one would shake hands and work for the betterment of the community, but not in this city. In this city it’s shake hands and let’s come out fighting.

If a gold mine were known to sit under the city and this City Council wanted to dig it up, I’m sure the losers would object.

Citizens won’t realize that the city is broke until the lights are turned off on Tweedy Boulevard. People of South Gate, wake up! Don’t let a group of losers lead the city into bankruptcy. Let’s protect South Gate from total collapse.

The losers have no agenda, no dreams, and no hopes for our great city. They offer nothing.
