A La Jolla teen was severely injured after falling from the bed of a moving pickup truck early Saturday, the second such incident in two days, San Diego police said.

The 16-year-old teen, who was not identified, suffered severe head injuries when he fell from the truck as it was making a turn from a suburban La Jolla street, police said.

The accident happened shortly after midnight as the truck drove in the 8300 block of La Jolla Scenic Drive.

The teen was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where authorities said he was in critical condition late Saturday. He was placed on life support, said a nursing supervisor.

Meanwhile, the driver of a pickup truck that crashed Friday morning, killing one teen, was listed in good condition at Mercy Hospital Saturday night, police said.

Ruben Garibay, 19, had been drinking alcohol before the crash but police said they did not know if he was under the influence when the accident occurred.

Claudia Madrid, 16, a student from San Diego Union High School, was killed when she fell from the speeding truck that rolled over and crashed into a concrete wall on Florence Street in Southeast San Diego, police said.

Four other occupants of the truck were injured.
