A 25-year-old construction foreman apparently committed suicide Monday morning when he ran out of an Encinitas hospital and into oncoming traffic on Interstate 5.
Joseph Blair Beatty Jr., 25, of the 6800 block of Beadnell Way in Clairemont, was being treated in the intensive care unit at Scripps Memorial Hospital for a drug overdose when he left the hospital nude at 6:40 a.m. Monday, a spokesman from the medical examiner’s office said.
Beatty ran into the southbound lanes of I-5 north of Santa Fe Drive and was struck by a tractor-trailer and two cars.
