An armored car guard was shot and killed Wednesday during a bank robbery in Culver City and police were seeking four robbers who fled in a van.

The incident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. at the Security Pacific Bank at 9453 Culver Blvd., Lt. Bill Burke said. The armored car guard, who worked for Loomis Armored Inc., was making a delivery. As he entered the bank foyer, one robber grabbed his cash bag. When the guard turned, the second robber shot him in the head, Burke said. The guard managed to draw his gun and fire an unknown number of shots, Burke said.

The robbers fled in a van--described by witnesses as white or beige--and carrying two other people, Burke said. The guard, whose name was withheld, was taken to Brotman Medical Center and pronounced dead at 2:49 p.m. The amount of cash in the stolen bag was not immediately disclosed.
