PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Allen Might Be Ready for Rams

Injured tailback Marcus Allen will return to practice next Monday and might be ready to play in the Raiders’ game against the Rams on Oct. 20 at the Coliseum.

“If he works, and he works well, there’s a good possibility he’ll be ready for that game,” Coach Art Shell said Wednesday.

Allen has been on the injured reserve list since Sept. 4 after straining right knee ligaments in the Raiders’ opening-day loss to the Houston Oilers.

Guard Max Montoya will miss his third consecutive game because of a groin injury. “We want to make sure we give Max enough rest,” Shell said. “The first time, we may not have given him enough rest.”

Tailback Greg Bell, released this summer after an injury settlement, said his sprained ankle is 100% healed, and he is ready to return to an NFL roster. The Raiders have allowed Bell to rehabilitate at the team’s facilities, but it remains uncertain whether the team will sign Bell again.

“I’m tired of sitting here watching,” Bell said. “If they don’t want to do anything here, then let’s go ahead and get me somewhere so I can go ahead and play. Everyone says I’m first on the list, but until something’s done, then there’s no deal.”

The San Francisco 49ers are among the teams Bell and his agent have contacted.

Seattle quarterback Dave Krieg has returned to practice for the first time since breaking the thumb on his throwing hand in the Seahawks’ opener against the New Orleans Saints. Seattle Coach Chuck Knox said Krieg will not play against the Raiders unless the quarterback is 100%. Jeff Kemp is expected to start in his place.
