Culver City : Parking Fines Increased

Share

Parking signs are sure to be read more carefully as Culver City moves to increase its parking fines.

The City Council approved a new fine schedule Monday that will add $10 or more to the charges assessed for parking violations.

The bail amount for parking on a street at a time when posted signs prohibit parking, for instance, will increase from $15 to $25. The fee for parking in no-parking zones designated by red curbs will go up from $28 to $41, as will the fee for parking during a time reserved for street sweeping.

The increased fines will help make up about $322,000 that is expected to be lost to the state, which began taking a larger share of the city’s traffic fines to offset its own budget crisis.

Increased parking-meter rates had also been under consideration, but council members decided that raising the amount the meters charge and the fine for expired meters would hurt small businesses, said Councilwoman Jozelle Smith.

The new fine schedule must be approved by the Los Angeles County Municipal Court’s bail committee before it goes into effect.
