A passenger train crushed part of the foot of a 19-year-old man who was trying to board Wednesday as the train left the downtown San Diego station, authorities said.

Moises Camacho, 19, identified as an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was missing two toes when he was found by San Diego police next to the railroad tracks in the 1700 block of Kettner Boulevard near Date Street, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Two of the Camacho’s companions told officers that the injured man’s left foot was caught under a wheel when he tried to jump on the moving train.

Camacho was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where doctors amputated the damaged foot. The two unidentified companions were turned over to immigration officials for deportation, Robinson said.

After Camacho recuperates from the accident, he also faces deportation, Robinson said.
