U.S. Doubles Teams Win in Wheelchair Tennis
Brad Parks of San Clemente and Rick Slaughter of Nashville, Tenn., defeated Baruch Hagai and Shabi Ben Yoram of Israel, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round of the U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships Thursday at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Parks and Slaughter, top-seeded in the men’s open doubles division, advance to today’s quarterfinals. Also advancing was the second-seeded team of Dan Lachman of Corona del Mar and Jim Black of Long Beach, who defeated Japan’s Mitsao Iwasaki and Yasukatsu Ohmori, 6-3, 6-2, in the second round.
In the women’s open singles quarterfinals, Monique Van den Bosch of Holland defeated Laguna Niguel’s Christie Rudder, 6-2, 6-0.
