U.S. Border Patrol agents have seized 750 pounds of marijuana near the Port of Entry, authorities said.

Officers responding to a report of illegal immigrants at 6:05 a.m. Saturday spotted a group of nearly a dozen men hiding in brush, said Steven Kean, a Border Patrol spokesman. The men fled into Mexico but left behind 10 duffel bags, each containing about 75 pounds of the drug, with an estimated street value of $1.5 million, he said.

The smuggling attempt took place in an area where the border fence is in disrepair, Kean said. Army reservists have been working to upgrade the fence since March.
