PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Dupree Will Get More Playing Time

Tailback Marcus Dupree’s six-carry, 38-yard performance might have been the sole bright spot of the Rams’ defeat Sunday. With Cleveland Gary sidelined for a couple of weeks because of a knee injury, Coach John Robinson promised that Dupree will play more.

“Marcus Dupree got a chance to play and did a good job,” Robinson said Monday. “Showed his power as a runner, and we will have him in the games more often.”

With 215-pound Robert Delpino as their primary tailback, Robinson suggested that the Rams haven’t been going to their power running attack as much as he would like. Dupree is 230 pounds-plus and ran over a few Falcons on a 24-yard gain.

“He’s having a really good season,” Robinson said of Delpino. “It’s just, I worry about him, quote, pushing the pile. We found ourselves trying to get him past people, draws and traps and stuff like that, instead of just banging away at them.”

Receiver Flipper Anderson, sidelined since Week 4 because of a broken vertebra in his lower back, may be available for this Sunday’s game against New Orleans, Robinson said.

But Robinson said he will resist to urge to start Anderson, even if he looks strong in practice, preferring to work him slowly into the game plan.

Guard Bern Brostek played on special teams Sunday but still showed signs of hobbling on his sore right ankle and may not be ready to play again soon, Robinson said.
