Magic Expected to Miss First Two Laker Games

Share

The Lakers said Tuesday that Magic Johnson was unlikely to play in the team’s first two games.

They open the season Friday at Houston, then play Saturday at Dallas.

The Lakers will then return to open their home season Tuesday against the Clippers.

Johnson continues to attend practice but is not participating. His illness had been diagnosed as flu, compounded by fatigue and dehydration.

Sedale Threatt is expected to start in Johnson’s place. The Lakers are also missing Tony Smith, out with a severely sprained ankle. Tuesday, they re-signed rookie free agent Demetrius Calip of Michigan, whom they had cut last week.
