Missed Spare Spoils Duggan’s Chance for Fifth Bowling Title
A missed spare in the fifth frame deprived Anne Marie Duggan of her fifth Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour title. Instead, the La Habra resident lost to Carol Norman, 195-193, in the finals of the $50,000 Hammer Midwest Open Wednesday.
After failing to knock down the four pin, Duggan still had a chance for victory going into the 10th frame, but could muster only a strike and spare when she needed two strikes.
“I could have been better,” said Duggan, who led all qualifiers for the stepladder finals. “I felt when I needed it, I threw it, but didn’t get it.”
Norman received $9,000 for her fourth career title and first of 1991; Duggan collected $4,500.
