Savage either didn’t do his homework for this article or he intentionally distorted the facts; in either case, the reader is left with the same old Los Angeles Times drivel and inaccuracy. The first paragraph asserted that the recent case of Rust vs. Sullivan was about the question “Can the government prohibit doctors from telling their pregnant patients about abortion as a medical option?” This was not a First Amendment question before the court. The court prohibited no doctor from giving abortion counseling; the court merely upheld the concept that such advice cannot be billed to the government if the government directs that it will not pay for such advice. Any doctor can give abortion counseling on his own dime.
