Oliver North, a profile in courage. Former Marine Lt. Col. North, our beloved American hero, was convicted for his involvement in the Iran-Contra affair and then successfully appealed his conviction. North did not tell the truth during the Iran-Contra hearings yet he is now willing to sell the truth in his new book (“Under Fire”). He alleges that President Reagan knew about the diversion of funds to the Contras and the subsequent cover-up. The conduct of North in this entire matter has been unconscionable.

However, despite all the lies, duplicity and deception, North will no doubt make a handsome profit from his book. Despite all the congressional hearings and subsequent trials, we may never know the truth about the entire affair. However, perhaps one day former President Reagan will also decide to sell us the truth in a book.
