Share

A slain man whose body was found this weekend in an orange and avocado grove remained unidentified Monday, and police said there are few clues.

Detective Terry Fincher said that both the identity and the motive in the slaying of the man, who appeared to be between 45 and 50 years old and was found dead Sunday afternoon in a grove near the intersection of Bastanchury Road and Lake View Avenue, remain a mystery.

“There is really not much I can say at this time,” Fincher said. “We have not been able to establish a motive.”

The man had been shot, possibly execution-style, in the head and abdomen with a large-caliber weapon after possibly having been forced into the grove, police said.

Neighbors told police they heard gunshots between 12:30 and 2 a.m. but offered no further clues.

The body was found at 3:30 p.m. by the adult son of the property owner, police said. Neither a wallet nor any valuables were found on the body.
