COUNTYWIDE : Latino Group Seeks Awards Nominees

El Concilio del Condado de Ventura is looking for a few good citizens.

The nonprofit advocacy organization will give awards to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the county’s Latino community.

Awards will be given in the following categories: youth (ages 14 to 22), business, cultural arts, education and community service. Call El Concilio at 486-4587 for official nomination forms and general awards information.

Entries are due by Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. Awards will be presented at the third annual Latino Awards Dinner in January.

This year’s leadership awards went to teacher Carmen Cortez for education; Victor Salas, a founder of the Santa Paula Mexican-American Chamber of Commerce, for business; Al Soliz, past president and longtime member of the Oxnard Boys and Girls Club, for community service; Frank Salazar, founding conductor of the Ventura County Symphony Orchestra, for cultural arts; and Orlando Larios, an electronics wizard who operated the sound system at a Jackson Browne concert, for youth.
