The Pierce College women’s volleyball team fell to visiting Bakersfield, 16-14, 7-15, 4-15, 15-7, 15-8, Tuesday in a Western State Conference match that was interrupted because of a bomb scare.

With the first game tied, 11-11, a Pierce official informed both teams that a bomb threat had been made over the telephone. Both teams left the gym and waited outside for 15 minutes, according to Pierce Coach Steve Gazzaniga.

After campus police determined that there was no bomb on campus, an all-clear bell was rung and the teams resumed play.
