NHL ROUNDUP : Capitals Trail, 3-1, Then Beat Rangers, 5-3
The Washington Capitals spotted the Rangers a 3-1 lead Wednesday night in New York, then rallied for a 5-3 victory.
Kevin Hatcher’s goal with 5:53 remaining put the Capitals in front for the first time in the game between the top teams in the Patrick Division.
Mike Liut recovered from a shaky start to stop 27 shots and enable the Capitals (14-4-0) to increase their lead to three points.
Peter Bondra brought the Capitals even with his 11th goal at 7:40 of the third period.
Pittsburgh 5, Edmonton 4--Kevin Stevens completed his hat trick at 3:25 of overtime in Pittsburgh while sitting on the ice to give the Penguins the victory.
Stevens scored twice in the first nine minutes. After the Oilers rallied to tie, Stevens, knocked to the ice, tipped in a shot by Paul Coffey.
