A Garden Grove auto body and paint shop owner and a Santa Ana business supplies retailer have been selected as the county’s leading Latino business people for 1991 by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orange County.

Al Martinez Jr., owner of Al Martinez Body Works, was chosen businessman of the year by the 500-member chamber, and Lola Romero Seymour, co-owner of Clifton Seymour & Associates, was named businesswoman of the year.

The two were picked for their contributions to the Latino community and the community at large as well as for their business successes, said Alfredo Amezcua, president of the chamber.

Martinez established the Orange County Hispanic Community Scholarship Foundation earlier this year to provide scholarships to the county’s talented Latino students.

Seymour was cited for recruiting a large number of non-Hispanic companies into the Hispanic chamber. Their dues and donations enabled the group to finance various charitable and cultural projects for the Latino community, Amezcua said.

The awards were presented Saturday.
