SANTA ANA : 2 Bandits in Home Invasion Still Sought
Police on Tuesday were looking for two armed robbers in connection with the invasion of a Santa Ana home Sunday that turned bloody when the would-be victims fatally shot one of the bandits.
So far, there was no clue to the identities of the two men, who fled after the shooting in the home of Phu Van Tong, a former South Vietnamese national police officer, Santa Ana police Sgt. Art Echternacht said.
A fourth intruder, Dai Dahn, 19, of Minnesota, was captured by Tong and his son Hai Tong, 26, and is being held in the jail ward at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana on suspicion of murder and armed robbery.
“We don’t know anything yet” about the accomplices, Echternacht said. “We have no new information at this point.”
The Tongs fought off the home invaders after they broke into the family’s Columbine Street residence. Tong shot one of the robbers after being pistol-whipped.
The identity of the 32-year-old man, who died at the scene, is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Echternacht said.
Dahn was caught outside the home by Hai Tong, who tackled him as he tried to escape.
