A plan for the Women’s Tennis Assn. to go on its own in 1993 and sever its formal ties with the governing body of women’s tennis and its sponsors has been called off.
The Women’s International Pro Tennis Council released a statement reaffirming its alliance with tour sponsor Kraft General Foods through 1994, ending a bid by WTA leader Gerry Smith to form a breakaway tour.
