COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Tar Heels Win With Play of Phelps, Davis

While Hubert Davis was putting up 12 of his 16 points in the first half, Derrick Phelps was creating havoc at the other end of the court as eighth-ranked North Carolina cruised to a 97-58 victory over The Citadel at Chapel Hill, N.C., Sunday.

Davis had eight of his first-half points in a two-minute spurt as the Tar Heels took control early.

Phelps scored only eight points, but disrupted The Citadel’s game with five steals in the first half, spearheading a defense that forced 33 turnovers.
