A field-goal shooting effort of 28% and 20 turnovers cost Cal State Northridge in its third consecutive loss, 60-44 to Evansville before 8,256 at Roberts Stadium on Monday night.

“I don’t know what happened,” Northridge forward Keith Gibbs said. “We just stunk it up. Some of it was their tight defense, but not a lot of it.”

The Matadors were unable to take advantage of a team that missed 10 of its first 12 shots and turned the ball over seven times in the first 10 minutes.

“We definitely should have beat them,” Gibbs said. “We know we’re better than this, but we didn’t prove it.”

Seven-foot-1 center, Sascha Hupmann, scored a game-high 13 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked four shots for Evansville (1-1).

Northridge (0-3) missed 14 of its first 16 shots in the second half and the Purple Aces opened a 34-22 lead.
