Ruelas Brothers Win by Knockouts
The Ruelas brothers both scored quick knockouts Tuesday night at the Country Club in Reseda.
Gabriel Ruelas, 21, knocked out Ascencion Lugo of Mexico at 1:58 of the first round, and Rafael Ruelas, 20, stopped Juan De La Paz of Ontario at 1:38 of the second round.
Gabriel Ruelas, a junior lightweight ranked as the eighth-leading challenger by the World Boxing Council, improved to 26-1 with 14 knockouts.
Rafael Ruelas, a lightweight ranked as the 15th-leading challenger by the WBC, improved to 28-1 with 23 knockouts.
Gabriel weighed 130 pounds, and his brother weighed 134 1/2 pounds. Lugo, who dropped to 10-5-2 with eight knockouts, weighed 131. De La Paz, who fell to 12-6 with 11 knockouts, weighed 135.
