Carol Canceled: After an unsuccessful attempt to bring the one-hour variety format back to network television, Carol Burnett has agreed with CBS and Disney to cease production on her new comedy-variety series. “The Carol Burnett Show,” the comedian’s well-publicized return to CBS after 13 years, has floundered in the ratings for four weeks, plagued by behind-the-scenes production and writing problems. Recent efforts were made to fix the show, but executive producer Marcia Brandwynne said it was like “trying to change a tire at 60 mph.”
