The Knights, like Esperanza, are small in a year where the rest of the Empire League is tall. “I’m hoping our quickness will make up for our lack of size, but we’ll still have some problems against some of the teams in our league,” Noble said. “We’ll try to press and run more to take advantage of being shorter and hopefully faster.” Katella has the right person to run its perimeter-oriented offense in Carrillo, who was all-league as a freshman last year. Carrillo is a three-point threat, can penetrate and dish and “do whatever else we need her to,” according to Noble. Glodt, an honorable mention all-league choice last year, is an excellent outside shooter, and Noble says Katella will need her to score consistently. Other Knights with a good outside touch are Davis, who didn’t play a lot last year but works hard and plays tough defense, and Kennedy, who moves up from the junior varsity. Armbruster and Barba are Katella’s post players, and Noble says each has the ability to get the job done inside. “Patti can really jump and I think she can be a good shot blocker once she gets under control,” Noble said. “Kelsi’s a good athlete, but she hasn’t played a lot of basketball, so we’re hoping she’ll get better as the year progresses.” Noble hopes to play more man defense this season.
