OUTLOOK

No one knows much about this team, including its first-year coach Sand, who took over after coaching the Troy boys’ junior varsity last season. One thing is certain; the Warriors have height and plan to play a power, post-up game. Four players are 6 feet 2 or taller, including Logemann, the team’s best player. “She is very athletic,” Sand said. “You would think at 6-2 she wouldn’t move all that well, but she’s out there filling the lane on the fast break.” The athleticism isn’t surprising considering Logemann’s older brother, Thorpe, was a standout water polo player at Troy and is currently a key player on the junior national team. Although it’s hard to overlook the four 6-footers, the key to Troy’s season may be in the backcourt, where Sand is entrusting his offense to a 5-1 freshman, Shah. Sand is quietly optimistic about the potential of his team, but he is also realistic. “We’re not in a position to think ‘Can we beat La Habra?’ ” Sand said. “This team won one game last season, so we haven’t talked about winning. That will take care of itself. The No. 1 thing we need is experience. We’re striving for improvement every day, and hopefully when league rolls around, we’ll be a team to be reckoned with.”
