PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Davis Gives Shell the Credit for Success

Share

Club owner Al Davis credits Coach Art Shell for the Raiders’ rise to the top of the AFC West standings.

“We just need to get Art the tools, like (John) Madden had (as Raider coach),” Davis told the Washington Post. “When Art played, he was great; when he was an assistant, he was great, and as a head coach he’s great.”

A review of the film of last Sunday’s victory over the Cincinnati Bengals has earned defensive end Greg Townsend another sack, increasing his team-leading total to 10. Anthony Smith, originally credited with two sacks in the game, was awarded only one and now has 8 1/2 for the season.
