In the first round of the Valencia tournament:

El Modena 69, Warren 65 (OT)--Erik Erickson hit a 28-foot three-pointer with one second left in regulation to tie the score at 65-65. Aaron Aguilera finished with 19 points and Erickson had nine for El Modena (1-0).

Troy 71, Cypress 56--Center Jim Falletts scored 23 points and guard Randy Abbott added 19 in the Warriors’ (1-0) first-round victory.

In nonleague boys’ games:

Santa Margarita 101, Laguna Beach 86--Dan Bathey scored 32 points and had 10 rebounds for host Santa Margarita (1-0). Michael Carpenter had 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists for Santa Margarita. Darren Gravley scored 24 for Laguna Beach (0-1).

Newport Harbor 78, Bellflower 61--Justin McIntee scored 27 points, had eight rebounds and hit 11 of 13 free throws for host Newport Harbor (1-0). Steve Uirez scored 23 points, including a three-pointer before fouling out, for Bellflower (0-1).

In the first round of the Irvine girls’ tournament:

Brea-Olinda 58, Dana Hills 23--Jody Anton scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds for Brea-Olinda (1-0) at Woodbridge High. Adara Newldouski scored seven points for Dana Hills (0-1).
