Pro Football Daily Report : AROUND THE NFL : Noll Undecided About a 24th Season
Chuck Noll said this is the most disappointing of his 23 seasons as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ coach and he hasn’t decided if he will return next season.
The Steelers’ 5-8 record has increased speculation that this may be Noll’s last season. But, asked if he is under the impression he will be allowed to decide when he steps down, Noll said, “I think so.
“It’s something we’ll talk about after all of this is over,” Noll said, referring to his annual postseason meeting with team President Dan Rooney.
“I had really high aspirations for this team,” said Noll, who is 207-155-1 overall.
Offensive tackle Bubba Paris was waived by the Indianapolis Colts, a day after he made several drive-killing penalties in the Colts’ 31-0 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Paris was called for three penalties, and three of the six sacks and several other pressures of quarterback Jeff George came from his side of the line.
Coach Rick Venturi said the move was not made solely on Paris’ performance, but he would not talk about the veteran player’s development since he was acquired as a free agent in August.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound Paris, released by San Francisco in August, started eight of 13 games for the Colts.
Paris probably will be replaced by Brian Blados, who formerly started at tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals.
