Robert Nederlander, who succeeded George Steinbrenner as managing general partner of the New York Yankees, announced that he will resign Dec 31.

Nederlander has been in control of the team since Aug. 20, 1990, when Steinbrenner was ordered to step down by Commissioner Fay Vincent after an investigation into his dealings with admitted gambler Howard Spira. Steinbrenner still controls 55% of the Yankee stock.
