Boosters met with Cal State Long Beach President Curtis McCray and presented a plan to save the financially troubled 49er football team.
The proposal by the Touchdown Club reportedly includes an endowment of cash and gifts worth $400,000. It also pledges to raise an additional $100,000 to $200,000 a year by sponsoring an award to be given to the best special teams player in the nation, holding a yearly testimonial dinner and other events. The school says it needs between $600,000 and $700,000 a year to maintain football on the Division I-A level.
