COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Michigan’s Five Freshmen Help Spark a 112-62 Victory
All five of Michigan’s heralded freshmen, led by Jalen Rose with 19 points, reached double figures as the 18th-ranked Wolverines beat Chicago State, 112-62, Monday night at Ann Arbor, Mich.
Chris Webber had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Michigan (3-0). Juwan Howard added 12 points, and Jimmy King and Ray Jackson had 11 each. James Voskuil, a junior, had 17 for the Wolverines.
No. 23 Georgetown 93, Delaware State 76--Alonzo Mourning scored 21 points, grabbed a personal-best 22 rebounds and added nine blocked shots to lead the Hoyas at Landover, Md.
Georgetown (4-1) used a 9-0 run at the beginning of the second half to take a 49-34 lead.
OTHER GAMES
Elmer Bennett made three free throws and grabbed two rebounds in the final 1:03 to help Notre Dame hold off Valparaiso, 71-66, at Valparaiso, Ind. The victory was the first for Notre Dame Coach John MacLeod. LaPhonso Ellis led the Irish (1-3) with 17 points.
