ATTENTION SHOPPERS: Why is there a new sign on the northbound San Diego Freeway, pointing the way to South Coast Plaza? It has to do with the heavy traffic there, says Caltrans, which posted the sign in an attempt to ease congestion on the Bristol Street exit, which pulls in traffic from the San Diego and Costa Mesa freeways. The sign identifies the mall and adds: “next two exits.” . . . “We’re trying to encourage people to drive on up to the Fairview exit,” says Al Miranda of Caltrans.
