OUTLOOK

The future didn’t look good after Ocean View lost to Pasadena, 63-55, in the first round of its tournament, and Coach Jim Harris was the first to admit that he was concerned. “If you would have asked me early last week how we were going to do this season, I wouldn’t have been so optimistic,” Harris said. “Now, I’m as fired up as I’ve been in years. We’ve got kids who really want it (the league title). We’re going to be one tough cookie.” Harris said the team’s early problems stemmed in part from its lack of understanding of a new defense, and from being too offense-oriented. “The kids were judging the games by their shooting performance,” he said. “We started the year 2-1 and were shooting 33% as a team. Some guys were really down.” The best shooter on the team, Harris’ son Jimmy, sharpened his skills over the summer while recovering from a stress fracture in his ankle. “If there was anything good about him having to sit out the summer, it was that he spent the whole time practicing his shooting. It was all he could do,” Harris said. Harris says he thinks Ocean View can contend for the league title.
