PREP ROUNDUP : No. 1 Capistrano Valley Loses in Soccer

Laguna Hills upset previously unbeaten Capistrano Valley, the top-ranked boys’ soccer team in Orange County, 2-0, Tuesday night at Capistrano Valley High school.

With one minute remaining in the first half, Laguna Hills forward Andy Cook scored off Giuseppe Lombardo’s assist

The Hawks (5-3-1) added to their total when Julio Montes scored from 15 yards out 10 minutes into the second half, also off an assist from Lombardo. Capistrano Valley is 6-1.

In other nonleague boys’ soccer:

Corona del Mar 1, El Toro 0--Travis Grant scored on a header with four minutes remaining for visiting Corona del Mar (8-0-1). El Toro is 2-2-1.

Mission Viejo 2, Brea-Olinda 0--Joe Christie scored both goals, including one on a penalty kick, for visiting Mission Viejo. Brea-Olinda is 2-5.

In Garden Grove League girls’ soccer:

Pacifica 3, La Quinta 0--Lisa Luna scored two second-half goals in the Mariners’ victory at La Quinta.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

Canyon 6, Fullerton 1--Kim Campbell scored three times and Krista Broughton twice.

Edison 2, Corona del Mar 1--Erin Bailey, normally a halfback but pressed into service as a goalie because both of Edison’s goalies were out with the flu, made 10 saves in her debut at the position as the host Chargers improved to 4-1-1. Christine Tyler scored twice for Edison, including the game-winner with 20 seconds left.

Huntington Beach 4, Lakewood 0--Amy Lebrun and Cayce Meade each scored twice for the Oilers (3-3-2).

Mater Dei 4, Mission Viejo 1--Kim Donohue scored three goals for host Mater Dei (3-1).

Rosary 3, Katella 3--Quinn Diep scored on a penalty kick with two minutes to play for Rosary (5-2-2), capping a comeback from a 3-0 halftime deficit at Katella (1-2-1).

Troy 4, Tustin 2--Lane Mosler scored three goals for host Troy (4-2-1).

University 2, Estancia 1--Kerry Kinwald scored twice and the host Trojans (4-3) overcame having to play a player short for the final 13 minutes of the first half and the entire second half after Laura Watson was ejected for fighting. Lauren Weaver had the goal for Estancia (6-2).

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Fullerton 68, Canyon 57--Sommer McLane scored a school-record 42 points and had 13 rebounds for host Fullerton. Tiana Roberson added 20 points for the Indians (6-2), and Erin Waggoner had 21 for Canyon.

Century 46, La Mirada 34--Lucy Guerrero had 18 points and 17 rebounds for host Century (5-3).

Costa Mesa 73, El Toro 40--Olivia DiCamilli scored 30 points and Yool Kim added 16 for host Costa Mesa (5-4). Jana Stark led El Toro with 15.

Newport Harbor 69, Santa Ana Valley 24--Forward Kala Ross had 27 points for Newport Harbor (3-4).
