Three members of the Southern California Christian football team apparently don’t believe that slugging it out 48 minutes on the field in a championship game is straining enough.

So they played with the school’s basketball squad in a doubleheader less than 24 hours after helping the Flames win the Division X football title last Friday with a 34-14 victory over Calvary Chapel.

Fullback Dennis Amundson, tight end Mike Hatcher and wide receiver Scott Williams went to the hardcourt Saturday for nonleague games against Avalon at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Bancroft Middle School in Long Beach.

Williams, a 6-2 forward, scored 30 and 26 points in the two games; Hatcher, a 6-5 center, had 25 and seven points, and Amundson contributed four points in each game. Avalon won the first, 58-54, and the Flames took the second, 77-60.

The previous night, Amundson rushed for 144 yards and scored a touchdown against Calvary Chapel and Williams caught a 20-yard touchdown pass. Hatcher had one reception for 13 yards.

Good thing the game wasn’t at Avalon. The trio probably would have swam there for a little extra exercise.
