Tulsa Tailback Hughley Dismissed from Team : Freedom Bowl: Nation’s fifth-leading rusher won’t play Dec. 30 against San Diego State.
Tulsa tailback Chris Hughley, the nation’s fifth-leading rusher, has been dismissed from the team because of poor grades and will not play Dec. 30 in the Freedom Bowl, team sources said late Friday night.
The No. 23 Golden Hurricane plays San Diego State in the Freedom Bowl in Anaheim on Dec. 30. Hughley averaged 132 yards per game this season.
A team source, who asked not to be identified, said Hughley had been dismissed for academic reasons.
Hughley, a junior, sat out his freshman season at Tulsa because he failed to meet Proposition 48 requirements.
Coach David Rader declined to comment late Friday.
