‘For the Boys’ Shows Wartime Culture From Behind Stage

Share

I read Roland Wolpert’s Counterpunch and I saw “For the Boys.” I was so very disappointed in the film. I don’t always agree with critics, but I have to admit they are more often right than wrong.

I agree with the review by Kenneth Turan. The movie got very heavy a lot of the time, and I thought to myself, “Is this ‘A Farewell to Arms’ I’m watching?”

I like Bette Midler, but only some of the time in this long, overdone and not very convincing film.

The audience in this film, all the time, seemed to be overdoing their excitement for the stars. For me, “For the Boys” turned out to be “For the Birds”!
