In other nonleague boys’ basketball:
Cypress 67, Buena Park 57--Chad Triplett scored eight of his 10 points in the second quarter as Cypress (7-7) outscored Buena Park, 25-15, en route to the upset. Angel Barrios had 22 points for Buena Park (11-3).
Katella 65, San Clemente 47--Brian Carlson scored 13 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, for Katella (5-7). Teammate Lee Jones had 11 rebounds. Katella outrebounded San Clemente, 41-23.
Foothill 48, Newport Harbor 43--Jarrod Winger scored 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and had 11 rebounds for Foothill (8-7).
Esperanza 48, Valencia 47--Mike Lawson made a three-point shot with 1.6 seconds remaining to give Esperanza the victory at Valencia. Matt Kordik scored a game-high 25 points for the Aztecs (7-9). Marc O’Brien scored 18 points for Valencia (7-5).
Canyon 45, Compton Centennial 43--Canyon led, 15-2, after the first quarter and 24-13 at the half but Centennial rallied in the third quarter to pull within three points after three quarters. Brian Jaloweik scored 12 points for Canyon (7-8).
Troy 71, Norwalk 52--Jim Falletta had 15 points and nine rebounds for Troy (10-5), which opened a 38-17 lead at the half.
Woodbridge 66, Mission Viejo 55--Woodbridge hit 28 of 38 free throws and Ethan Twer scored 19 points and Todd Loewe 18 at Mission Viejo.
In Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:
Santiago 51, Bolsa Grande 49--In a opening game in the Garden Grove League, Con Nguyen of Santiago (7-3, 1-0) scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jason Dienhart was high point man for Bolsa Grande (0-1, 0-9) with 17 points.
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
La Quinta 46, Los Amigos 34--Linda Rodriguez scored 18 points and had seven assists for La Quinta (3-6, 1-0).
Santiago 47, Bolsa Grande 29--America Robledo scored 17 points and had nine rebounds for Santiago (4-6, 1-0). Brandi Tantardini scored 13 points for Bolsa Grande (3-6, 0-1).
Rancho Alamitos 79, Pacifica 42--Anita Stecker and Shannon James each had 18 points for Rancho Alamitos (4-2, 1-0).
In nonleague girls’ basketball:
Magnolia 45, Laguna Beach 40--Koko Hampton scored nine of her 17 points in the fourth quarter for Magnolia (3-7). Cole Stephens scored 23 points for Laguna Beach.
In Garden Grove League boys’ soccer:
Kennedy 3, Garden Grove 2--Jason Pasol scored the winning goal with less than a minute remaining as Kennedy extended its league unbeaten streak to 20 matches. Pasol scored after Garden Grove goalkeeper Jacob Servin bobbled a shot by Shawn O’Keefe and Pasol got the rebound. O’Keefe had tied the score, 2-2, with five minutes remaining for host Kennedy (7-2, 3-0).
In Sunset League boys’ soccer:
Santa Ana 2, Westminster 0--Miguel Abaraca scored both goals for the top-ranked Saints (10-2, 1-0). Santa Ana kept Westminster on the defensive most of the match, allowing only two shots by the Lions.
Fountain Valley 0, Marina 0--Marina goalkeeper Hans Gratzer made three saves for his sixth shutout of the season, and Ryan Bertoni, his Fountain Valley counterpart, stopped two shots at Marina.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
La Habra 2, La Mirada 1--George Villegas scored the winning goal on a cross from Cesar Arazia with five minutes left in the match for La Habra (5-2-5). John Fournell scored the tying goal for La Mirada (4-4) by deflecting a corner kick midway through the second half.
