Share

An armed robber who entered a Simi Valley restaurant at closing time Sunday night left five employees tied up and fled with more than $600 in cash, authorities said.

But the robber failed to steal the day’s receipts from the Steer ‘n’ Stein restaurant on Cochran Street when employees were unable to open a safe, Manager Nick DiPadova said.

“Everything was locked up,” he said.

The robbery occurred about 10 p.m., when a man brandishing a small-caliber handgun herded the five employees together and took $662 in cash from their wallets, Simi Valley Detective Wayne James said.

The robber ordered the restaurant’s night supervisor to tie up the other employees, and then he tied up the supervisor, James said.

The employees quickly freed themselves and alerted police. Nobody was injured, James said.

Simi Valley police are looking for a man who witnesses said is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds.
