NATIONAL ROUNDUP : Embracing Wins Aqueduct’s Broadway Handicap

Embracing passed Royal Residence in mid-stretch and went on to a 2 1/4-length victory in the $87,600 Broadway Handicap for fillies and mares at Aqueduct in New York City Sunday.

Royal Residence, carrying 113 pounds and ridden by Julio Pezua, was second in the eight-horse field, a head in front of Hey Baba Lulu, who carried 114 pounds and was ridden by Mike Smith.

Embracing, carrying 112 pounds and ridden by Herb McCauley, covered one mile and 70 yards on the fast track in 1:44 1/5. She earned $52,560 for Rory Green Stable with her seventh victory in 31 career starts.

Embracing returned $12, $5.40 and $2.80 as the fourth choice. Royal Residence paid $5 and $3, and Hey Baba Lulu returned $2.40.

Morriston Belle led all the way to score a four-length victory in the $50,000 Herecomesthebride Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on the grass at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Fla.

Snazzle Dazzle was second by one length over Miss Jealski.

Morriston Belle, ridden by Dave Penna, ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42 1/5 and paid $15, $11.20 and $6.60. Snazzle Dazzle paid $12.20 and $6.20. Miss Jealski paid $3.60 to show.

Penna sent Morriston Belle to the lead immediately and she remained in front by a length into the first turn and down the backstretch. On the far turn, Miss Jealski rallied into second with Naked Royalty third and Snazzle Dazzle moving up to fourth.

Morriston Belle increased her lead over Miss Jealski to three lengths leaving the far turn and led by 1 1/2 lengths at the top of the stretch as Snazzle Dazzle made a run on the outside to battle Miss Jealski for second.

The front-runner led by two lengths at the eighth pole and then pulled away from challengers.
