Tom Gugliotta scored a career-high 36 points, including eight of 14 three-point shots, as North Carolina State used its outside shooting to upset No. 10 North Carolina, 99-88, Wednesday night at Raleigh.

It was the most points the Wolfpack has scored against the Tar Heels. Kevin Thompson added 19 for the Wolfpack (9-6, 3-2).

“It is so emotional when your team is playing well,” said Gugliotta, who made 11 of 17 field goals, grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists. “Last year when we beat them it was a great win. But we had a lot of firepower, more experience.
