Jack Nicklaus, who dominated the Senior Skins Game a year ago, began the 1992 event in much the same fashion Saturday, winning two holes worth five skins and $95,000.

The second nine holes of the $450,000 event will be played today at the Mauna Lani Resort at Kohala Coast, Hawaii. The first hole, No. 10, will be worth $50,000 because the final hole of Saturday’s round was tied.

Nicklaus earned $65,000 when he hit his second shot to within 12 feet of the pin on the par-four, 390-yard eighth hole, then rolled in his putt for birdie after his three competitors each missed long tries for birdie.

Lee Trevino, on medication for an ear infection, won two holes, worth a total of $30,000, and Chi Chi Rodriguez won one hole worth $15,000.

Arnold Palmer, too strong with his irons most of the day, did not win a hole.

Jay Delsing retained the lead, although a host of contenders moved within striking range in the third round of the Phoenix Open at Scottsdale, Ariz.

Delsing, who has yet to win in an eight-season career, turned himself around with a late eagle-birdie-birdie burst, shot a two-under par 69 and will take a 200 total into today’s final round of the chase for a $198,000 first prize.

Mark Calcavecchia birdied the final hole for a 67 and moved to within one stroke of the top spot.

Duffy Waldorf and John Huston were two strokes back at 202. Waldorf moved up with a 67 and Huston shot 69 in the near-ideal playing conditions.

Mark O’Meara, a playoff loser last week, led a group of five at 203.
