Two Players Commit to Aztecs

San Diego State’s football team has received oral commitments from Scott Hammond, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound defensive back from Lincoln High School, and from Dalton Simmons, a 6-1, 170-pound defensive back from Ehret High School in New Orleans.

Simmons picked SDSU after also taking an official visit to Colorado. He canceled trips to Oklahoma, Washington and Florida and, according to Ehret Coach Billy North, he also was being recruited by Louisiana State and Mississippi.

“He’s a three-year starter for us and probably our best all-around athlete this year,” North said. “He has good speed and really has a nose for the football.”

Simmons, who had 10 interceptions last season, was named first-team all-state and was the 5-A (large schools) defensive most valuable player in Louisiana’s District 9.
